Lowery Ltd are seeking an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor. They are the principal operating company within the Lowery Group, gaining a reputation for quality and service in over 50 years of civil engineering.
Lowery has undertaken civil engineering works of all types, always responding to market changes and developments. It currently focuses its activities in the Rail, Telecoms and Power sectors, offering its customers proven experience and knowledge.
Purpose of job
• To provide assistance to the project team and perform pre and post contract administration for assigned projects.
• To gather and compile data essential to the administration of contracts, assist in implementing contract administration procedures and helping to ensure that the duties and obligations of the parties to the contract are fully discharged.
• To provide information to allow the review of progress and performance of each assigned contract
Principal responsibilities
• Establish and maintain the contract/ commercial filing system.
• Set up and maintain correspondence control and compilation of tender documentation for submission.
• Liaise with Senior Quantity Surveyor, Project Manager and Project Team to provide information as required
• Provide support to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager for the preparation and negotiation of changes / variations to contracts as well as the resolution of constructive contract changes with respect to additional compensation and time; administer Project Manager Instruction and Variations; review Technical Queries and Daily Reports for commercial issues.
• Assist in the review and approval of sub-contractor progress payments
• Assist in maintaining a contract status report, Progress Claim, Monthly Valuation
• Assist in preparing Sub-contractor’s claim, enquiry of quotation, preparation of quotation comparison
• Other tasks as directed by Senior Quantity Surveyor.
Working Week Minimum 35 hours per week including college day
Training to be Provided by CSTT
- NVQ Level 3 in Surveying, Property and Maintenance: Quantity Surveying Pathway
- BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment (Surveying)
Completion of the apprenticeship will contribute towards gaining Associate Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Qualifications Required
To be eligible for this apprenticeship:
• We welcome applications from applicants aged 16 to 18 years old, recruitment would then be on merit
• You should preferably have four GCSE’s or a UK Level 2 qualification (preferably GCSEs should be with grades A-C in English, Maths and Science). Support may be available if you do not have these qualifications
• Must be eligible to live, work and remain in England

This vacancy is based in Reigate, Surrey and the salary will depend upon how well the chosen candidate meets the required criteria.
Interviews will be held on Monday 16 January 2012.
Employment will begin in early 2012 and the apprenticeship will start in September 2012.
Future Prospects
This is a two year apprenticeship during which time you will be undertaking on the job and college based training and working towards Associate Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. On completion of your apprenticeship there may be the opportunity to go onto degree level study and achieve full Chartered Surveyor status. This opportunity therefore offers real career progression for the right candidate.
