Job Description
We are responsible for maintaining and managing the Motorway and major trunk road network and associated assets on behalf of our client the Highways Agency in the South West. Apprentices will be progressively involved in the commercial and contractual arrangements of our operations. As a junior apprentice you will initially be applying your GCSE maths and English in the measurement and recording of highway works carried out and associated payments and costs. As you gain in knowledge and experience you will increasing appreciate the contractual arrangements between us and our Client, our Suppliers and Sub-contractors. You will need to be willing to obtain a UK driving licence during the first year of your apprenticeship if you do not already hold one.
Apprenticeship programme
A full-time two year Apprenticeship including completion of a level 3 NVQ Diploma in Surveying and a Diploma in Construction on a day release basis. On successful completion of the Apprenticeship you will be encouraged to apply for Associate Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The Junior Apprenticeship provides a solid foundation for further day release study leading to an RICS accredited degree qualification.
The individual
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Minimum of four GCSE’s including Grade C or above in Maths, English and Science (ideally grade B or above in Maths and English)
- Excellent team working skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ambition and motivation to progress within the commercial function within the construction industry
To meet Health & Safety requirements and funding arrangements for these post candidates will be aged 18 years (by 1 August 2011 or at the latest 18 years by the end of 2011).
